Understanding the Seventh House in the Birth Chart According to Vedic Astrology

According to Hindu astrology, the seventh house in the birth chart is reserved for spouse and marriage. This house tells everything from the nature of the spouse, conjugal life, sex life, relationship with the spouse, extra-marital affairs, worldly pleasure etc. How accurate will be the readings for the seventh house depends on the experience and knowledge of the astrologer. Actually, there are a lot of factors that affect the predictions, and astrologer should be able to see everything from the effect of the sitting planet, planetary cycles, how the sitting planets view planets on other houses (called dristhi), etc. In this article, we give a general summary of what each of nine planets sitting on the 7th house indicates.

Sun in the 7th House

When the sun is in the seventh house, it indicates bad things for the individual that includes but not limited to delay in marriage, loss of libido or even sterility, early death of the spouse, separation from partner etc.

Moon in the 7th House

When the moon is in the seventh house, it is very likely that unconventional marriage such as inter-racial marriage, inter-cast marriage will occur. The individual who has moon in the 7th house will have mixed type of relationship, he/she will love spouse, but will also be jealous and suspicious of his/her spouse.

Mars in the 7th House

Mars in the 7h house is considered “Mangal Dosha” or Mars Affliction. It is suggested that if any individual has Mars Affliction, he/she should marry the individual who has the same Mars Affliction. Mangal Disha indicates a lot of things from death of the spouse, separation with the spouse, extra-marital affairs etc.

Mercury in the 7th House

According to Hindu Astrology, Mercury is infertile planet. Therefore, when mercury is in the 7th house, it is very likely that the spouse will either be infertile or is lacking in libido. Everything will be fine except the sex life or reproduction.

Jupiter in the 7th House

When Jupiter sits in the seventh house, the spouse is noble but often fails to understand the partner, thus it is very likely to have bickering relationship.

Venus in the 7th House

The lord of the seventh house is Venus and when Venus is in the 7th house, or in its own house, the individual will have a very good relationship. The spouse is favourable, relationship is based on love and mutual understanding, and the couple enjoy a good sex life. Interestingly, when other planets combine with Venus on the 7th house, results will be different. For example, if Mars and Venus combine in the 7th house, it is very likely that the individual or his/her partner will be immoral.

Saturn in the 7th House

Saturn in the 7th house indicates delay in marriage or partner much older. In some case, Saturn in the 7th house also results in denial in marriage. If Saturn combines with Mars in the 7th house, the individual will have a lot of troubles in life in general, not just in marriage or relationship.

Rahu in the 7th House

Effects of Rahu in the seventh house are similar to the effects of Saturn in the 7th house. When Rahu is in the 7th house, the individual’s spouse might die too early, they may get into scandalous relationship. When Rahu combines with Mars or Saturn, the individual might marry a foreigner. If Rahu combines with Moon, the individual might be hysterical.

Ketu in the 7th House

Result of Ketu in the 7th house will lead to unhappy married life. The individual might even marry low class individual. When Ketu combines with Saturn in the 7th house, the individuals will be infidel or have amoral relationship.

  1. I have been trying to self learn Hindu astrology since some time and this article helps. I did knoe the lord of seventh house is Venus and the seventh house for spouse. But I did not know other things.
